HPTC Tennis Memorial 2025 Scholarship Essay

By Brayden Fisher

Love-40

From the start, tennis was an excuse to get out of school; relieve my brain from all the strenuous class work. When I was on the court, I was serving the ball, taking part in rallies, and occasionally hitting it out; nothing more. All the stress and overwhelming schoolwork was aided by a single yellow ball. Getting that early dismissal to go warmup on the courts, with my team, was an instant relief. Creating strong bonds with new teammates, and stronger bonds with known teammates, was far better than learning about Derivative and Literary devices. And why not do what I love best? Sports. As an athlete I work hard, no matter what. Down 50 points in a basketball game, losing by 8 runs in Baseball, back-to-back slices at the tee, I am still in the game. If the match is Love-40, 0-5 in sets, I’m still giving it my all. When I really look at it, I get that drive from my father. He is working nonstop to support me and my family and takes nothing for granted. No matter how hard I work I can never compete with that man, but I sure will try my best, rally, and never give up when I am down Love-40.
